Applying Pacemaker Electromagnetic Protection Technology to All Types of EMI Countermeasures

— Aiming to eliminate electromagnetic interference between both human and electronic devices —

Pacemakers and ICDs are safe medical devices. However, in recent years, the increase in wireless devices such as mobile phones, IH cookers, and anti-theft gates (electronic article surveillance systems) has raised concerns about interference with pacemakers and ICDs. As a result, patients with implanted pacemakers or ICDs are often restricted from using certain equipment or entering certain facilities. Since 1997, we have been conducting research and development of electromagnetic protective garments with the hope of enabling such patients to live normal, unrestricted lives.

In 2006, we released the “MG Vest” and “MG Apron” for pacemaker electromagnetic protection. In 2010, we developed the “MG Work Vest” with enhanced protection for patients forced to change jobs or close businesses due to high EMI in their workplaces. Over 30,000 patients have worn our garments, and to date, there have been zero recorded interference incidents with pacemakers or ICDs (as confirmed by event logs from programmers).

The development of these garments required overcoming the following challenges:

  • ・Identifying which types of electromagnetic noise (frequencies and waveforms) affect pacemakers
  • ・Developing test equipment such as human body phantoms to evaluate EMI effects and garment performance
  • ・Creating new shielding materials that are lightweight, thin, and high-performance
  • ・Designing garments that are durable, washable, and comfortable without burdening the body
  • ・Establishing test systems using actual pacemaker/ICD devices in cooperation with medical institutions
  • ・Collecting clinical case studies of patients wearing the protective garments
  • ・Implementing protocols for expiration management and collection/disposal of expired products

The technologies and materials developed through solving these issues are now being applied to EMI surveys and testing, as well as the development of products that prevent malfunctions or emissions in electronic devices. We provide these solutions to corporations, government agencies, and research institutions.

As 5G networks expand, the demand for EMI shielding in device and application development is increasing. Our shielding products are already in use in 5G-related development, and we expect further growth in societal demand.

Furthermore, our proprietary pure silver mesh, “MG Net,” possesses strong antibacterial properties and is widely used as a deodorizing and disinfecting filter for masks and as a catalyst for generating silver-ion water.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support and look forward to contributing to your success.
