MRI Protector
General medical equipment Radiation protection equipment
Patent number 6799351
Protective clothing for protecting body parts from unnecessary exposure to electromagnetic waves during MRI examinations
made in Japan
MRI scans irradiate electromagnetic waves (RF pulses), but these are of a strength that is not permitted for any purpose other than medical purposes.※。
During the examination, body parts other than the affected area are also exposed to electromagnetic waves. In addition, exposure to electromagnetic waves can cause heat generation and discoloration of non-magnetic metal implants (stents, sternum wires, etc.), metal fixation devices such as rings and wrists, and metal components contained in tattoos and eyebrow ink, as well as burns due to the appearance of high-frequency loops formed in body parts.
By reducing patients' exposure to electromagnetic waves, this product minimizes the potential health risks to patients and the various risks mentioned above due to electromagnetic exposure, allowing not only patients but also the technicians in charge of the examination to perform the examination with greater peace of mind.
(This is especially recommended for patients who are rushed to the hospital and for whom it is difficult to obtain consent forms.)
※The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) defines "public exposure," "occupational exposure," and "controlled exposure." MRI electromagnetic wave exposure is below the upper limit of "controlled exposure" (whole-body average SAR value of 4 W/kg), but is greater than the limits for "public exposure (0.08 W/kg)" and "occupational exposure (0.4 W/kg)."
Features of MRI Protector
- The outer material is waterproof and breathable nylon fabric, and the lining is polyester fabric with antibacterial, antibacterial and deodorizing properties. It is also suitable for alcohol disinfection and low-temperature sterilization (gas sterilization, etc.) and can be dry-cleaned, providing thorough measures against infectious diseases.
- The non-magnetic silver fiber material MGnet is inserted between the outer and inner linings as an electromagnetic wave shielding material.
- We offer a variety of MRI protectors to suit the parts of the body you wish to shield from electromagnetic waves.

In MRI scans, there is a risk of heat generation and discoloration due to metals in implanted medical instruments, rings, nails, and metal components in dyes such as tattoos. In addition, when contact with the gantry or a high-frequency loop is formed by a cable or the body, there have been cases of burns caused by induced currents when electromagnetic waves (magnetic flux) pass through the loop. If the tattoo pattern is a loop, the risk is even higher, so caution is required.
This product has the ability to reduce the amount of electromagnetic wave exposure inside the body by more than 80%, and further reduce the amount of electromagnetic waves (magnetic flux) passing through the loop by approximately one-hundredth.
Between October 2017 and August 2020, there have been over 5,000 clinical cases like the one below in medical settings, with only one abnormality reported, involving incorrect wearing of the mask.
